The Rovira Regenerativa project is about permaculture education, nature connection AND agriculture.
During this weekend activity we were working on small and slow solutions. In 2026 we plan to have the funds to take some bigger leaps forward and our community of participants, all of you who come to learn and play in nature can follow our progress.
Our next weekend is 2-4 January! Sign up here or See more info and our dates for Spring
In October we had a fantastic group, this time almost everyone had done Permaculture Design Certificate and were looking for hands on experience. (Although you don’t need any specific knowledge to join our activities, it just happened this way in October)
The aims were to plant seeds adapted to the particular conditions of the valley to guide the ecosystem towards abundant food producing species. You can see full detail below!
Highlights of the weekend :
- Sharing our expectations and motivations while taking it in turns to stir the biochar in a compost tea to activate the beneficial microbes. It makes me VERY happy when we are making the world more alive in many ways at the same time!!
- Angela taking the lead – jumping into the river first to encourage everyone else to swim, after a day in the valley on Saturday.
- By the last day we felt like a family and it feels great that we are still in touch and preparing the next permaculture adventure together. It was wonderful to have a young group of friends with us, a long-lasting connection.
What exactly did we do for the ecosystem?
Information about the three projects we did the weekend of the 18th and the 19th of October 2025 in the vineyard:
We seeded an aromatic hedge in between stones on the dry side of the field H. We put down Rosemary and Thyme seeds but the Sage packet was empty so we should definitely add that later. We also buried a wheelbarrow full of activated biochar that area.
We worked in field I and added to the edible hedge in the humid zone. We added a mixture of seeds with some compost around them and Angela dug nine holes and we put biochar in nine holes along the edge of the field. We chose this field because the Life Terra trees are the healthiest here. We want to have an example of the agricultural vision as soon as we can and this is the place where we think that we’ll have better results. We put in the seeds such as: aromatics – eg oregano, and some fruits trees eg Almonds, peach and plum, and some tree spinach and other perennial vegetables suited to this micro-climate.
The third thing that we did was we’ve started a new little area which is called the “Membrillo Guerilla” area: We found some quince (membrillo) trees growing in lovely lush fields with grass growing all around. We also found some hazel trees and productive walnut trees in this area. So we added more! We seeded plums, almonds, peach, apricot, rose hip and a random seed mix for luck. We added biochar to the ground – especially near the new seeds, and the hazels. We’d like them to produce nuts, not just grow! This project is on abandoned land that is not ours, we just see an opportunity for edible species to flourish and in our ongoing dance with the systems we are part of, we saw the chance for a big change from a small interaction. At the right time, and adding the right enriching ingredients!
